3 December, 2010 - Campbelltown City Council has today launched an innovative new community space in the award-winning One Minto development, providing a variety of recreational opportunities and further revitalising the suburb.
Redfern Park, developed in close consultation with the community, features a state-of-the-art and innovative playground, an extensive amphitheatre lending itself to live performances and cultural activities, and modern picnic facilities.
The park also features a half basketball court, providing recreational opportunities for local youth, and a circuit for bikes and trikes. Set in a tranquil bush setting, the park promotes accessibility to all members of the community, and over time is set to become an integral part of the social fabric of Minto itself.
The park is central to the One Minto housing development, which is a partnership between Housing NSW, Landcom and Campbelltown City Council to deliver integrated and affordable housing with an innovative mix of public housing and private homes.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said One Minto was a prime example of various tiers of government working together to achieve improved outcomes for the community.
“Council continues to work closely with Landcom and Housing NSW to progress the development, and welcomes the launch of this important community space in providing residents with a variety of recreational opportunities in the heart of Minto,” Cr Lake said.
“A vibrant and accessible community hub, Redfern Park further revitalises the suburb and paves the way for a brighter future.”
Construction of a multi-purpose community centre, to be built adjacent to the park, is due to commence early next year and will further enhance the precinct.
The One Minto estate renewal project was awarded the 2010 Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards in August.
